My Basic Blogging Tools

Blogging ToolsMy Blogging Tools

As you all know, I’m a new blogger and I’m here to show you that you can start with just the basic blogging tools and very little money. I did a ton of research before starting and was still so nervous to actually begin the set up process. Finally, I told myself, “If your going to do it, just do it!”

Once I started, I realized I could learn a lot more through trial and error rather than reading a ton of stuff that ended up being extremely contradicting. One said this, the other said no, not this. It got confusing and frustrating all at once. Believe me, there was a lot of trial and errors when I jumped in. Still are at some points, like adding the Country Cabin Store, which I am still working on. It is up and working if you want to check it out, just not too many products yet.

It is also a lot of fun and oh so exciting to be on this new journey! I’ve had my blog up for a couple of months now and I’ve written some about making money with your blog.

Right now my basic (very basic) blogging tools include:

    • HP 2000 Notebook PC
    • HP Deskjet 2132 All-In-One Printer/Copier/Scanner
    • Apple iPhone 4 (yes it is WAY out of date, but it still works and I can’t afford to upgrade just yet)
    • Tons of paper, pens and pencils
    • And last but surely not least, my Keurig! Gotta have that coffee to keep me going.

There are a ton of Apps on my laptop and on my phone that help tremendously as well. I very much want this blog to be a huge success so I treat it like a job, and one that I love! I try to be consistent with the time I “work”, like I would if I had a 40 hour work week and even the occasional over-time.

  • Hi Cristina,
I met you at Jay’s blog party. You mentioned you are a new blogger. I help new bloggers at my site. Tips for engaging readers, improving content, and increasing traffic are waiting for you.
I also have regular blog parties like Jay. Actually, I’m having one now and would love for you to come.
In response to what you wrote, I have also blogged about blogging tools, several times.

  • Congrats on the new blog and hope this year brings lots of good things your way. We just started this past year as well and being new and knowing nothing we have come along way, I think anyone can start a blog and should not be afraid to start, we all have something wonderful to share.

  • Hi Cristina,
I met you at Jay’s party.
Did I read you’re a new blogger? I help new bloggers at my site. I am having my own blog party today and would love for you to come. Here is the link:

    • Yes I am a new blogger, thank you so much for the invite. I have been to your meet and greet party, it is awesome, what a wonderful idea. Thank you!

  • Looks like you are all set with some great tools!

  • Hi,
This is my 3rd attempt at commenting. My others went to your spam folder, I am guessing.
I read at Jay’s party you’re a new blogger. Here is a link to my About page. I help new bloggers.

    • Love the way you help new bloggers, thank you. I have shared on Facebook as well!

  • Zim

My blogging tools of choice are the Jaaxy keyword tool and SEO Yoast – these ensure that I habe a lrg up on my competition in search engines.

  • LOTS of paper and pens! That’s the truth. 🙂 Keep at it!

  • Keep at it Christina. Soon enough you’ll be generating enough revenue to grow your toolkit. Happy New Year!

  • Thank you for your help. New blogger here.

    • Same here, but I feel in time we will all do just fine with our blogs so long as we keep going strong and don’t quit! Good luck on your new blog. 🙂

  • Yes, coffee! lol I’ve got my steno notepads for blog writing (plus pencils and pens), other notebooks for notes, laptop, and iPod Touch for easy photo editing for blog posts. It’s interesting to see what others use too.

    • Gotta have that coffee for motivation! lol Your right it is interesting to see what others use as their basic tools. I do wish mine were newer but they work and at least I have something to get started so I can’t complain. Hoping to some day be able to upgrade some of them, laptop and iPhone at the top of the list for upgrades. lol

  • It’s good that you’re taking your blog so seriously – it won’t grow to become a business unless you treat it like it already is one. Looks like you’re off to a great start!

    • Thank you so much Brandi. I look at it this way, if you were working for someone else, a company, or a business, you wouldn’t be able to just stop to answer a personally call or do a load of laundry, etc. I set break times and if I want to do anything personal, I do it then. I believe in self discipline and hard work to accomplish goals.

  • Jen

This is such informative post. Very helpful for those who would love to explore blogging.

  • Kait

I love that you acknowledge that you still have an iPhone 4! I love your list of tools as well!

    • Thank you Kate. I do very much need to upgrade the iPhone 4 as I can’t even update it anymore but unfortunately with Christmas just over and living on a budget I just can’t do that right now. I think that is what I will be saving for though.

  • Jenni Petrey

Good luck with your blog. I’m fairly new to this whole thing too!

    • Thank you so much Jenni and good luck to you too! Just remember to have fun with it, keep learning, and don’t give up!

  • It’s interesting how different everyone blogs. I don’t use any paper or the printer for blogging. I didn’t for my graduate degree either. 100% digital. Happy 2017!

    • Yes Kari, it seems everyone has there way to do things and whatever works for them is great! I use a lot of paper because it helps me remember all things I need to learn or if I have an idea but no time to blog I can write it done. Things always seem to come to me when I am busy doing something else. lol Happy Blogging. 🙂

  • Elizabeth O.

I think these are all important. We need to make sure that we have all the things we need to make blogging easier.

    • I agree. I know everyone has their own way and their own tools that they believe in and use on a daily basis. But for me, for now, these are mine.

  • I totally understand the “nervousness”! I just launched my blog and am still working out some bugs for it! There is so much to do to have a functioning, monetized blog! There is so much to learn! I agree with just jumping in and doing it!

    • I’ve been to your blog Britney and it looks like you are doing well too! Jumping in and building your blog is the best way to learn! Good luck with your blog!

  • despite modern technology i am sitting here with papers and pens next to me!!!

    • Amanda, I have paper and/or little notepads all over the house. My best ideas seem to come to me when I’m busy doing something else and I sure don’t want to forget them so I jot them down! I also like to have a notepad and pen handy when I read something of interest like a good plugin or something like that, that I want to check out later. Pen and paper is a must for me too.

  • KatrinaJeanCarter

This is perfect for bloggers who are starting out! Thanks for sharing!

    • You are most welcome, hope it helps. I know some people believe they have to have all the latest technology and that’s not the case. I do just fine with my out of date stuff. lol

  • Great to hear you dived right in to blogging. There is a lot of information out there on blogging but nothing can replace the thiung you learn as you go.

    • And that is exactly what I learned, real quick too. lol Thank you. 🙂

  • Jackie Taylor

Thanks for sharing. This is super helpful!

    • Your very welcome, hope it helps many to realize you can start blogging even without all the newest technology.
